• Xen is a slightly more refined virtualization platform, perfect for critical and memory-intensive (such as Java) applications.  Xen can easily virtualize a Windows environment.
• KVM is an emerging virtualization platform that's included by default in newer Linux kernels.  Performance is fiercely debated, but is generally considered to be almost identical to Xen - if not slightly faster.
