I received a spam or abuse report! What should I do? Print

We hate spam. We really do. But we also recognize that a massive quantity of outgoing spam is the result of hacked or compromised websites. This puts us in the unfortunate position of having to choose between punishing an innocent customer (whose website was hacked without their knowledge) or punishing the entire Internet (by continuing to blast spam).

That's why when we receive an abuse or spam report, we will reach out to you with a copy of the pertinent details of the report. Although the language in our alert is strong, it isn't our intention to scare you. Rather, we want to make sure you understand the severity of the event, and how quickly things need to be set straight.

If we don't hear from you by the deadline specified in the report, we may take additional action to mitigate the abuse. We may take action immediately if the abuse is severe enough, and/or presents an immediate threat to our customers, our infrastructure, our reputation, or the general public. Examples of such action may include the permanent removal of the content in question and/or suspension or termination of your service.
